Age: 17 Hometown: Grygla, MN Date of Injury: 1/21/2006 Injury Level: C4/5 SCI-Step Start Date: 10/28/2008 I was hurt when a 800lb. hay bale fell from the top of the pile on top of me. I felt right away that I was paralyzed and couldn't breathe. My dad carefully lifted the bale off of me with the loader. I went into surgery, stayed there 2 weeks and then moved on to a special care unit in Fargo. I remained there for 7 weeks to wean off the vent. I was off the vent for 5 of the 7 weeks. After that, I went to Craig Hospital in Denver for 4 months. We read online that they had very aggressive therapy however, we found it to be very lame and mostly "functional". After moving home, I did as much therapy as I could find to do. Then I did some pool therapy and reflexology. Finally, we found KKI in Baltimore. I was set up with a program and have improved greatly. I decided to take advantage of the free trial week at SCI-Step and decided to stay an additional week. I now plan to move to Ohio next year to attend college and continue training at SCI-Step. Favorite Quote:
