Age: 28 Hometown: Detroit, Michigan Date of Injury: 6/23/01 Injury Level: T12 SCI-Step Participant: 6/16/03-10/18/03 "I live in the Lansing, Michigan area. I was practice riding at a motor cross track when I miss timed a jump and had a freak accident. I injured my spinal cord at the T12 level. At the time of my injury I was an apprentice for the IBEW 665 in Lansing, but since my accident I have been working on my family's farm. I have done a lot of therapy at home but it is very hard to stay motivated and push myself. That is why I am at Sci-Step." Since starting the program, John can now walk on the treadmill in his braces, walk in the pool unassisted and travel overground using the Biodex for support. He even stepped backwards for the first time in September! John returned to Michigan in September and will be dearly missed at Sci-Step. He made tremendous strides as was able to take steps over ground without braces. We hope that he returns in 2004 to keep working on his goals! We keep in contact with him often!
