Age: 47 Date of Injury: 9/24/03 Injury Level: C6 & 7 and L3 Sci-Step Start Date: 2/22/05 In the year prior to my accident, I had lost 50lbs. through the weight watchers program. I also began exercising on a regular basis and decided to train for a Sprint Triathlon in July of 2003. I completed my first tri and two months later I was hit by a Jeep Grand Cherokee while riding my bike to work. Thanks to the tri training, I was in the best physical condition I had been in for 20 years. I believe that is what saved my life and facilitated my amazing recovery. By all rights, with my injuries, I should be a quad but I am currently walking with lofstrand cructches. I hope to continue to improve and would like to try to train for another triathlon. I believe that if I can do this, Sci-Step is the place for me and I will work to make this happen. Favorite Quotes: Life is short-ride far. Go Lance Go (from the biking jersey I was wearing when I was hit!) If there is magic in fighting battles beyond endurance, it's the magic of risking everything for a dream that nobody sees but you. Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate- it is that we are powerful beyond measure. |
