Age: 39 Date of Injury: 01/28/2006 Injury Level: Herniated disc & infarction T8-T10 Sci-Step Start Date: 5/2/06 The circumstances of my spinal cord injury were not traumatic in the usual sense-no car accident for example. I was injured at home doing mundane things. I have been told by my doctors that I herniated a disc and suffered an infarction; the acute onset paraplegia was a result of the infarction. I came to Sci-Step because I wanted to participate in aggressive therapy with a recovery attitude. While I received good therapy in the hospital, the medical model of physical therapy for spinal cord injuries seems geared toward adaptation to the situation, not nerve and muscle change.
