Be sure to check out each person's page for the newest video!! 2/22/05 Welcome Kathleen & Scott! Things are so busy here that it has been hard to find time to update! Everyone is working very hard and making huge accomplishments! I promise to update individually soon! 1/14/05 This week we launched the ribbon magnet campaign and Jason and Andrew join the Sci-Step family!! 1/8/05 Well, things are off to a wonderful start so far this year!! Upon returning from a few days off, Tim has been able to take 6 consecutive steps in his AFO braces while concentrating on his quads and not just pulling with his hip flexors!! It is looking great! Matt, is taking many more steps in the rail system and is looking stronger than ever! Dan is seeing more and more strength in his triceps and Michael rode the spin bike for 25 unassisted minutes! Allison's step are looking great and she is able to focus on her control as well! 12/9/04 We are happy to report that everyone is doing great and continuing to make progress! Matt B, Tim and Michael are working on walking and improving daily! Dan's upper body strength is great and he was able to ride our spin bike last week! Allison had a great day with her steps on Saturday! We are also happy to announce the addition of three new clients in Jan. Jeremy, Scott and Jason will join us! It will be an amazing start to 2005! 11/8/04 We have entered November with hard work and dedication. Tim, Matt, Dan, Michael, Anne and Allison are all focused and looking towards their goals! Keep updated on their most recent videos by clicking on their names to the left! We have added a new piece of equipment to the program. It is from M.A.S.S. Rehab and called the mass strap. Below is a picture of Matt working on balance using it!
10/19/04 It is a sad time with the recent loss of one of our greatest hero's. We will fight hard to continue what he has started. Tim is back and looks great. Those AFO's are the key and he is walking faster and with more control. I just ordered his forearm crutches...we will see what happens! Michael is also working on gaining more hip flexor strength by using his KFO's. Check out the video on his page. Matt was able to stand in the standing frame without the back support last week. Keeping his knees locked is one thing that we are working very hard at! 10/4/04 Sci-Step is entering the fall with more motivation than ever seen. Great things are happening to everyone in the program and we can't wait to see where this will take each and every one of them. Tim went home for a three week break and will be back with us for three more months on the 18th. Bill also went home to spend some time in WI and will be back for three more months this winter. Everyone else is still pushing hard and making great strides towards their goals. Matt has entered his 7 month with us and we have seen ankle and toe control more than ever before. Dan is now doing three days a week while going to school and still making great progress. Check out Michael's personal page for the videos of his most recent movements!! How wonderful! Space is filling up for the fall and winter 2005 sessions so be sure to make definite plans if you are coming to Ohio to join us!! 9/7/04 Tim does it again...1,000 feet two days in a row! How incredible! Dan is making major improvements in truck control and hip adduction/abduction strength. He started school at ITT today and will continue our program while attending classes. Michael continues to gain strength in his lower limbs and Bill is able to stand for more than 30 minutes on a good day! Matt had his 6 month PT evaluation last week and I am so excited to share the results (with his permission of course):
8/20/04 This summer has just flown by! David returned to Sci-Step for three weeks prior to heading back to Bucknell. We will sure miss him and can't wait to work with him again next spring! Tim is still walking around the facility and is increasing his stamina daily. We hope that he has the ability to continue another three months. Who can only guess what he will be able to accomplish! Matt is working hard at riding the spin bike longer and longer. He has been able to stand using a walker and a little support from us. Increasing his trunk and upper body strength only allow this to become easier and easier for him! Dan is working hard at his upper body strength and is voluntarily moving his hip flexors like it is nothing! Bill was able to stand for 40 minutes this week and just today abducted his hip flexors! He is making great progress. Allison has been focusing on separating quad and hip flexors and is doing great! We also welcome Michael this week. He is from Cincinnati and will come to the facility three times a week while attending school this fall. Things are great here! 7/19/04 Last week was a great one! Tim walked from the front door to his van last week!! Dan was able to sit up independently and also adducted and abducted his hip flexors! Bill is working hard at sitting up without support and even stood for the first time since his accident! Allison returned from vacation and picked up where she left off and Anne is working hard at getting herself back to pre-surgery condition! Matt is still seeing tremendous movements in his legs and they are becoming stronger and stronger. Yianni came down for a visit and we had a blast! We miss him a ton! He looks so good in his manual chair! Be sure to check out the newspaper article on us too! Visit the press release section! 7/06/04 Everyone is doing great this week! Tim increased his walking to 500 feet! Dan is getting stronger at locking out his knees and abducted at the hip today! 6/28/04 Bill joined the group today! Tim did the ultimate this morning! He walked 11ft. with just a walker! It was amazing! Be sure to click on his name to watch the video! Dan was able to lock out his knees today on the total gym! What a great accomplishment! Matt and Anne are still working hard towards their goals! It was a great week! 6/21/04 Dan started today and we are excited to have him join the group! Anne is back and in full force this week too! 6/15/04 We said goodbye to David last week but look forward to seeing him again August 1st to pick up where we left off. Tim arrived safe and sound this weekend. He has already seen movement in his quads and was able to pedal a spin bike on the first attempt! We see great things to come in his future at Sci-Step! Congrats to Kim as she is now officially an Ohio State grad! Yahoo!! 6/3/04 Summer has brought us many changes so far and it is only the first week in June! Jennifer had to leave very suddenly but is set to be back and resume training on September 1st. We know that she will keep up with her newly acquired skills and our thoughts are with her mother as she recuperates from a total hip replacement. Amazing is the only way to sum up what Matt has been able to do in the past few weeks! He can now transfer in and out of his chair independently, sit up from lying on his side, lift his legs at the hips, lock out his knees, do a calf raise and just today, we witnessed trace hamstring control! Yesterday, being the jokester that he is, kept stopping the motor of the elliptical with his legs! David joined us for 4 weeks and has made remarkable changes during his time here. We will be sad to see him leave on Tuesday but can't wait to pick up where we leave off in August! He is now able to prop himself up on the mat with much more control and was able to ride the ERGYS2 last week for 30 minutes without fatigue! This is incredible considering the week before he fatigued in just 2 minutes! He was also able to lock out his knees several times on the total gym and we are focusing on perfecting that movement. He loves the pool and has made great progress with aqua therapy as well. Allison is still making significant progress each week and we can't believe that it is the same person who joined us in March! She was able to walk on the treadmill last week for nearly 30 minutes, coordinating the steps on her own!! Anne is still unable to fully return to her program after her surgery but last weekend, she traveled to Atlanta for the holiday weekend all by herself! This was a goal for her and she conquered it just like all the others that she has set! Cody came back this week for a visit and we loved seeing him again! He will return in September to pick up where he left off! We will be welcoming Tim, Dan and Bill during the month of June. Be sure to check out their progress as well as any new pictures and videos of our current clients! 5/17/04 Happy Birthday to us!! Jennifer made us a wonderful cake all by herself with her newly learned skills and more control over her upper extremities!! It was yummy! Matt B. can now feel pressure/pain on various spots of his low back, knee and ankle. Although it is not the best feeling... it is still a form of return! He has decided to stay another three months and we can't be happier! David started with us last week and is going great! Be sure to stayed tuned for progress updates! 5/1/04 Things are still going great here in Ohio! Jennifer is back after a two week trip home. Her doctor was amazed at her progress and this first week back was no exception! Matt is now able to do calf raises on command and even stood today with a walker. Be sure to take a peek at the picture on his page under participants! How incredible! While Anne's body is adjusting to her pump, she is busy maintaining the gains she has made with strength and weight bearing. It won't be long before she is back in action. Allison is doing wonderful with the biofeedback and last week walked backwards overground with the LiteGait! We are applying the techniques she is learning using the NeuroEd to functional movements! Look out! David Van Wagener will join the family the middle of May! 4/12/04 Sci-Step is pleased to announce that we are now officially considered an outpatient PT center! This is great news for those that have PT coverage on your plans. Although our philosophy and program have not changed, we will be able to bill insurance for specific components carried out by our new PT, Sara Johnston! We also welcome Kim Sondles to the team who will be with us thru June. She will then go onto Duke to pursue a Master's in PT. Both are wonderful and share the recovery vision that we have. It was a sad day last week when Cody left us after 6 months and returned home to MO to help out with the family business. He will be back to pick up where he left off in the fall and we will be counting the days until his return! Jennifer and Anne continue to work hard and see results daily! Matt was able to lock out his knees last week and can now transfer independently! He is making tremendous progress very fast! We are seeing a great deal of improvement with Allison and she has more and more control over her movements! Her smile brightens the room! 3/22/04 Sci-Step welcomes Matt and Allison to our family! Be sure to watch for updates on their progress! Best wishes to Anne who successfully had the baclofen pump installed this morning. She is doing great and we can't wait to get back to work minus the horrible hip flexor spasticity! Jennifer was did her first round of treadmill training and standing with the ParaStep. These are two huge accomplishments for her as she now has developed the strength and endurance to participate in these two components! Cody is making great strides to reach his goal of bench pressing 280lbs. Last week he was able to lift 270lbs!! This is incredible as he was only able to lift 185lbs. back in September! 3/12/04 Happy Birthday to Cody this week!! As he becomes another year older, he is still working hard. He is almost back to 100% after his skin graft and not letting huge bandages stop him! He was back in his braces and working on the treadmill. He also went back to pool therapy and was continuing to walk underwater!! Yeah! Anne has a date of the 22nd for her baclofen pump installation we can't wait to see what she can do upon returning. This will only keep her down 2-3 days and then watch out! Jennifer continues to make incredible progress. She was able to ride the ERGYS2 six miles last week as compared to the 1/2 mile ride she was doing back in Jan. This shows the huge amount of strength and endurance she is building up in her lower limbs! She also can lift her upper body to do a simulated crunch!! It looks great! Did we mention she is sitting on the Theracycle unsupported for her entire ride? She has also decided to extend her program thru August! Look out! Sci-Step also welcomes Matthew and Allison to our group and can't wait to begin working with them over the next several weeks! More information to come! Our thoughts go out to Yianni who will have surgery on the 15th... 3/2/04 Another great week at Sci-Step. Cody is back and able to do everything but aqua therapy. He was even on the treadmill today!! Jennifer swam 2 laps in the pool this morning using her triceps and shoulders, which are tremendously stronger. Anne is continuing to see increases in her strength as she waits for her Balcofen pump. 2/21/04 This past week was great for Sci-Step. Cody returned after undergoing a skin graft for a burn on his calf. Although still limited, he is training just a hard! A PT progress report noted voluntary control of 10 muscles that were not present in September. This is a huge display of progress! Susan also returned after taking several weeks off. A sprained wrist has kept her out of some components this week but we hope she will be back 100% soon! Anne received word that she will be getting her Baclofen pump mid-March and this will enable her to enter the next phase in the program minus the spasms. Jennifer is making tremendous progress as she enters the mid-point in her program. She is seeing progress daily and loves working on the mat as she is seeing great upper body and trunk improvements. We are still working hard at converting our program to physical therapy and hope to have all aspects taken care of soon so we can start accepting most insurance plans! |
